off towards the north and west heading to pittsburgh you are going to be dealing with some lake effect snow showers across that area and also points to the north heading maybe to maine you're going to be dealing with that as well. but all in all we are dealing with a dry day on tap for us. so not a whole lot it's pretty uneventful but we will start to see some change in the forecast and i'm going to show you all that coming up. but right now the planner this is how you can plan your day. waking up around 7:00 with temperature at 26 degrees. we will get plenty of sunshine in here especially by the afternoon. breezy conditions will be with us all day long. once again. 35 degrees and 38 degrees will be our high temperature but we will feel chillier than that because of the winds. let's get a check now of the abc2 timesaver traffic with lauren cook. good morning. good morning lynette. well, we are following a deadly crash on 6935 in parkville. it's shut down the inner loop lanes between belair road and harford road and here's a live look at putty hill avenue and we're able to see the scene here. this crash involved a tractor- trailer and a pickup truck and one person has died and this won't reopen anytime soon. maryland state police are

investigating. you will want to use white marsh boulevard as the alternate route. no delays though on the outer loop as you make the push up to towson. we have problems in the west side of the beltway. we are dealing with a crash on the outer loop at 795 and here's a live look south of that scene at baltimore national pike. traffic is moving right along. right now you are looking at a 13 minute ride traveling the outer loop from 795 down to 95. and if you are heading downtown, no delays whatsoever on the jfx. it's nice and clear from the beltway all the way downtown to east fayette street. and everything is up to speed through both the fort mchenry tunnel and the harbor tunnel. that's a look at your abc2 timesaver traffic. megan and charlie, over to you. on the breaking news out of prince george's county. two children and an adult are dead following a fire in glenarden. another adult and two other children are being treated for injuries. this is video just into the abc2 news room we're told the kids are all under the age of 10. wreath continuing to get the latest information on this deadly fire. stay with abc2 news and abc2news.com and you can also

get the updates on twitter. news time right now 6:31 and we have some breaking news that we have been following this morning out of cecil county. train cars have derailed this happened overnight. the scene is clear right now but the investigation is going on and abc2 news linda so is live this morning in elkton. what's the latest right now linda? >> reporter: well, the good news is no one was hurt when the train derailed. right now we don't know why it derailed. it happened about two miles if here. we're live outside the singerly fire department. firefighters from this department were the first to respond to the scene. we have all new pictures to show you courtesy of the cecil wig. the initial call dame in around midnight. the csx train derailed ten cars came off the tracks. two of the cars were carrying sulfuric acid. the csx engineer initially thought the cars were leaking containing the acid so a crew was called and so was the maryland department of the environment. when they got to the scene and inspected the damage, they found there was no leak.

for several hours overnight, route 213 which is singerly road was shut down in both directions. but the road is reopened this morning. and firefighters have cleared the scene. because this happened deep in the woods, no homes were businesses in the area were impacted. we're live in elkton, linda so, abc2 news. this morning a family is now dealing with the tragic loss of a 3-year-old boy. the child was inside a car of his grandmother when it began rolling backwards. the father noticed what was going on and he jumped inside to try to stop the car. and police say the child fell out and was then hit by the car. this happened on audrey lane in oxon hill. that toddler died at the hospital. well, today we're going to learn more who is going to tech over for john leopold's position as anne arundel county executive. abc2 news' sherrie johnson is here to tell us the vacancy has drawn a mix of candidates. right? >> reporter: that's right. the anne arundel county council is expected to make their decision during tonight's meeting on a successor for leopold. 16 people applied for the job

of the execkive. this includes former maryland first lady kendel ehrlich and acting county executive john hammond. they are scheduled to be interviewed tonight by the council for the opportunity to serve as executive until 2014 election. now one can be selected before the night is over and might be sworn in as soon as friday. a number of applicants don't fit the traditional mold. some are insiders with the name recognition. some were previously rejected by voters and others have never held public office. john leopold resigned this month after he was found guilty of misconduct in office, sherrie johnson, abc2 news. well, just ahead this morning thousands of dollars now blowing in the wind. fortunately for one mane a good samaritan was nearby. >> stay with us this morning. how he lost a lot of cash and got it back all in an instant. >> cameras were rolling as cars slammed into each other. what's to blame for a huge pileup. you'll see that on "good

the roads out there with lauren cook and her abc2 timesaver traffic report. >> we are following deadly crash on 695 in parkville. it now shuts down the inner loop lanes between belair road and harford road. here's a live look at the scene. now this crash happened right around 5:30 this morning. and it involved a tractor- trailer and a pickup truck. and we've learned one person has been killed. we will bring you the very latest as it does become available but maryland state police are on the scene. it was not expected to reopen for quite some time. use route 43 as the alternate route. if you are traveling the outer loop. no delays whatsoever heading up towards towson. but it is certainly starting to pick up in the area. again one person has been killed in this crash. they have not yet been identified and we will bring you the very latest as it does become available. we do have more problems on 695. there's a crash right now on the west side right on the outer loop at 795. and you're taking a live look here at old court road. you'll notice traffic is certainly starting to pick up.

it's going to take you 13 minutes right now to travel that outer loop from 795 down to 95. now if you are heading downtown, no delays who whatsoever on the jfx. nice and clear from the beltway all the way downtown to east fayette street. that's a look at your abc2 timesaver traffic. megan now for a look at the most accurate forecast here's meteorologist lynette charles. good morning lauren. good morning everyone. let's talk about what's going on right now. because temperatures the big story. it's cold. they are a little bit below average this morning and then we have the winds once again out of the west at about 5 to 15 miles an hour. so we are going to be feeling a lot colder than that. we're at 23 degrees right now in millersville. shadyside 22. more of the same in sykesville this morning. make sure you dress accordingly and really bundle up dress in layers. let's go ahead and switch over i can show you what's going on as we go through maryland's most powerful radar as of now. we are nice ask dry and this will stick around for today and then tomorrow for the most

part. and then will start to see change in the forecast for us. so if you have errands to run, things to do today is going to be the day because the weekend not looking so great. especially the first half of it. as we look at that planner we will get sunshine in here as we go throughout the day. and plenty of it. but the breezes will stick around. we start out cold and we end cold. with that high temperature coming in at 38 degrees. megan and charlie, over to you. a big mess to clean up right now in cecil county. a train derailed overnight in imington. sending -- elkton. sending ten cars off the tracks and abc2 news linda so is at a fire station a couple of miles away from the scene and linda, what's the very latest? >> reporter: well, no one was hurt and they're still trying to figure out why this csx train derailed. here's what we know and here's some brand new pictures we got overnight. courtesy of the cecil wig. this call came in around midnight. we're told a train originating from albany, new york heading to north carolina, derailed. ten cars jumped off the tracks. two of the cars were carrying

sulfuric acid. the engineer initially thought the cars were leaking. a crew was called so was the maryland department of the environment. but when they got to the scene and inspected the damage, they found there was no leak. for several hours overnight, route 213 was shut down in both directions which is singerly road but the road is no reopened and firefighters have cleared the scene. again, because this derailment happened deep in the woods no homes or businesses in the area were impacted. we're live in elkton, linda so, abc2 news. we have new video this morning we first brought you yesterday as breaking news on "good morning maryland." the popular restaurant in kansas city, missouri explodes and you can see it from surveillance camera video. neighbors said they had a strong smell of gas just before the explosion. officials have been evacuating the building when something ignited. right now one person is believed to be dead. today, some of the session's biggest issues will be up for votes in annapolis. some of the issues include gun control and pit bull legislation. abc2 news' sherrie johnson is here with the preview of that's

expected today. what can you tell us? >> reporter: some controversial issues today in annapolis. a senate panel is expected to vote on gun control issues. now among other things the bill would ban assault weapons. o'malley's proposed ban on weapons covers semiautomatic pistols and rifles and copycat weapons. gun rights sporters will propose changes on anything from eliminating licenses provisions to changing the definition of an assault weapon. also today the house will weigh in on the pit bull legislation brought to the floor on tuesday and to help boost their support animal advocates will gather in annapolis also far humane lobby day. they want to urge lawmakers to protect dog owners and families from the court of appeals ruling on pit bulldogs. it runs from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in annapolis. also watching a proposal to repeal the death penalty. busy day in annapolis, sherrie johnson, abc2 news.

you sit down in the car and you buckle your seat belt. new research shows there are still people who don't wear them typically teenager,s. the national safety council said it's the most effective way to prevent injury and death in the event of a car accident. stay in the backseat until they're more than 5 feet tall. experts say. >> it's recommended you stay in the backseat until you're at least 13 years old. realistically if you're over 5'0" tall the air bag will no longer hit you in the face and it will hit you in the chest. it's not as dangerous as it would be if you were shorter than 5'0" tall. >> overall the percentage of the people who buckle up has risen to 88%. for some kids afterschool programs are just as important as being in class. they teach children new skills and they help keep them out of trouble. today school loaders from more than 50 cities are coming to baltimore to discuss the

importance of afterschool programs. they're going to have share ideas on how to expand programs especially in areas with high poverty rates. well, attorneys are going through closing argumenting right now but it has been another grueling day in the com for oscar pistorius. his bail hearing hag now stretched into a third day and they're about to wrap that up. the double amputee is accused of killing his girlfriend. men time a twist in the case. one of the key detectives is facing criminal charges of his own. he is charged with attempted murder from a 2011 shooting. prosecutors say they don't know how the case against him could affect this with pistorius but the defense team says it lends itself to credibility. a decision could come by friday. check the spice cabinet. a company is recalling a spice product after significant levels of lead were found in some of the samples. it's called acoon what can it's used as soup tenderizer. if you have this in the kitchen

at today's memorial service for dr. jerry buss. the long time owner to have l. a. lakers died this week at the i think of 80. the service is being held at the theater. the home of the ravens is getting a makeover. they are holding a news conference this afternoon to announce upcoming improvements to the stadium. dozens of local wal-mart workers are planning a rally today. they'll be demonstrating in catonsville. president barack obama proposed raising the minimum wage to $9 an hour during the state of the union address. two new stamps are being unveiled today. one will be of rosa parks and the other is of the emancipation proclamation. a dedication ceremony is happening today at the edge until f. lewis museum in baltimore. slick roads in parts of california. take a look. cameras were rolling as a number of cars slammed into one another on i-15. eight cars piled up along the snow and ice covered roads and there were a few minor injuries

reported. officials have issued a warning to people to slow down because of the icy conditions. once again we've talked about this throughout the morning. 18 states to be affected by this. but some of the names we're not used to. parts of southern california, arizona? >> i know that's where you go golfing this time of year but it's ugly and lynette i know a lot of people are wondering if that's going to hit us and how hard and when. >> all right, yes it is going to hit us. not so hard but again it's relative because we are going to be dealing with more of the icy conditions. so that could hit harder than actual snow. i'm going to detail more of that coming up. let's talk. temperatures this morning. is the degrees in -- 19 degrees in manchester right now. 23 in annapolis. 25-degrees in centerville and 23 in easton 689 darlington good morning to you you're coming in at 20 degrees. the wind gusts now, 23, 21. centreville 20. 25 in easton. so you know we have that windchill. so make sure you bundle up and it feels like 11 in darlington

and it feels like 6-degrees in manchester this morning. so we are going to be feeling it but also we're going to be loving what we're seeing right? look at the sunshine. and bel air this morning, that will continue right into the afternoon so make sure you get out there and enjoy it. now over to the maps and i can show you what's going on. this is the system that megan was talking about. this is the one that's going to be working its way off towards the east. and with that, i believe that we are going to get in on that mix. that wintry mix, that purplish color that's going to work its way in here. we're talking about sleet, freezing rain mixing in with snow across the gray, it would be much better and safer if we were to get just all snow. and i know a lot of people want just all snow. but that's not what's going to be happening. also a severe component across the gulf coast states today as well. but the system for us snow, no severe-type weather, just the snowy-type weather or the wintry-type weather to be more accurate. there's the storm moving in friday night into saturday.
